I often had the strange feeling about not
liking poetry, or not understanding it quite enough – probably I was doing it
wrong. The truth of the matter is that I do like reading poetry, but only when
I feel the need to do it. I take advantage of that moment of inspiration and
write, although the outcome is not what I meant in the first place. It happened to me after I read a poem related to the beauties of nature called
Lily of the Nile, by Martha Hoffman (http://www.poetryatlas.com/poetry/poem/2449/).
Thank You
Thanks I give for the time spent
with me;
For the moments you shared with no
regrets;
For those words uttered in the
precise second
You knew I needed them.
Together with your warm arms around
me
Thanks for each and every laughter
and smile
Giving me full pleasure and completeness
With your calling me your modest lily
of the Nile.
Respect, Care and Admiration Is the
how
I can begin to comprise what I feel
For every time we made our love
tangible
My loving you I cannot conceal.

What a lovely poem Fernanda!! It was very simple and concise but beautiful and clear enough! I like poetry, I don't generally read it but, I tend to write some things related to poetry. I think that kind of literature does not reach everyone but once it reaches someone and gets to that someone, then, poetry can become a wonderful thing to connect with yourself and with others!
ResponderBorrarFernanda! I also have the same feeling. I don't like poems may be that is because I don't understand the meaning, haha. However, this time, this poem you posted I have understood it and I really like it!
ResponderBorrarHow nice this poem is! I used to write poems when I was adolescent! And I think that the folder with my pedestrian poems is somewhere in a wardrobe, under a pile of books and dusty blankets! Poetry was a way of expressing my feelings of lonelyness and uncomprehension, I think !
BorrarI had the same feeling some years ago. I said " I don't get the meaning... what did the poet want to say with this?" But, finally I learnt that literature is so magical that it doesn't matter what the author wanted to express as long as the poem or the literary work touches you. I mean, of course it is important the message the author wanted to convey, but I think it is more meaningful what the poem, story or whatever caused in you. This may coincide or not with the author's purpose. You are free in terms of INTERPRETATION. Everything is up to you.
ResponderBorrarNice poem, by the way. :)
